Albert Pujols stood in awe while watching the unveiling of a 10-foot, 1,100-pound version of him to the world. The magnificent bronze statue of the former NL MVP is in front of his restaurant in St. Louis where he gave a speech to say thank you to his fans.
“There’s going to be a lot of people asking, ‘Well, why is he not swinging the bat?’” Pujols told the crowd. “That’s to remind me it’s not about me, but it’s about Jesus Christ who gave his life so we can have eternal life. It’s really easy to lose focus when you have millions of people telling you how great you are.”
Even Pujols’ wife, Deirdre, was astonished at the fact that her husband has a statue. “That statue is unbelievable. For somebody to even want to do something like this, it’s pretty humbling.”
